Mordecai is never seen again in Rosebarrow. The
horrors he witnessed in Barovia, and his failure to find Luther the
Traitor having shaken his faith, and broken his pride. He would not
dare return to his family and comrades bearing the shame of defeat.
Though he and his new found companions defeated
Strahd, Mordecai had ultimately failed his mission, but the
Morninglord’s work is never done.
Tales from commoners and pilgrims traveling
between Rosebarrow and Frostbeard Keep speak of a dark avenger
wielding a blade of sunlight. He charges out of the forest to
ruthlessly slaughter bandits and highwaymen that accost travelers on
the road. A fully armored warrior in dark vestments, the symbol of
the Morninglord upon his chest, striking out to defend the innocent
and vanishing just as suddenly as he arrives.
All attempts to make contact with the avenger
by the church have proven fruitless.
Reports from witnesses of his deeds suggest he
is a renegade paladin, though his identity remains a mystery. To the
people of Rosebarrow the fate of Mordecai Andrion, Paladin of
Lathander, remains a mystery.
Mordecai has since retaken his oath, and now
follows a different path in the name of Lathander, to be the
avenging angel that strikes out against the darkness of the world.
